Some prototype tasks include an extra security step before you can explore the design. This usually happens when the customer shares a password-protected prototype during the test. This article explains what to expect and what to do if you get stuck.
In this article:
What are prototypes?
Prototypes are a customer's designs for a new app, website, or product feature. During your test, a customer might ask you to review one or more of these designs. These tasks help customers build the right product; your feedback helps them understand if they're designing a useful experience for their users.

Why is there a password?
Some customers add a password to protect their prototypes. When this happens, we’ll automatically enter the password for you. To continue to the prototype, just select Unlock access. If this doesn’t work the first time, wait a few seconds and try selecting Unlock access again. It may take more than one attempt to load.
If your browser asks to save the password, go ahead and ignore it. Saving this information can cause issues with prototypes in other tests.
What should I do if the prototype won’t load?
If you're stuck on a password screen or selecting Unlock access doesn’t do anything, try these steps:
Refresh the page
If the password screen doesn’t load or respond, try refreshing your browser. This often fixes small connection or loading issues.
Clear your cache and cookies
Sometimes, saved data in your browser gets in the way. Clearing your cache can give the test a clean start.
Check your system setup
Make sure your device and browser meet our system requirements. An outdated browser or unsupported device can cause issues.
Let us know
If none of these steps work, there might be a problem with how the customer set up the test. Use the help feature to report a problem with the test. If your session has already ended, you can contact Support instead.
How can I avoid problems?
- Use the most recent version of your browser.
- Wait a few seconds after selecting Unlock access—it may take a moment to load.
- Don’t save passwords in your browser when prompted.
- Make sure your internet connection is stable before you start.
Only some prototype tasks use a password screen. Most open without any extra steps.
