When you take an App test, your taps show up in the recording so the customer can follow exactly what you're doing during the test. This article explains how to update your device settings to share these interactions with the customer.
In this article:
Do I need to update my settings?
It depends on your test type:
-
App test: Yes. You'll get a prompt before the microphone check letting you know you need to update your settings to Show taps.
- Website test: No. You won't be prompted to update your settings. You'll go straight to the microphone check.
Check the test invite! The test type appears in the corner of the card.
How do I show taps?
- Open Settings on your Android device.
- Select About Phone.
- Find Build Number and tap it 10 times. You might need to enter your PIN or password.

- Find the Input section and toggle Show taps on.
Once you've set this up, head back to the app and select Microphone check to keep going.
Steps may look a little different depending on your device. For device-specific instructions, visit Google's Android developer options guide.
How do I turn this setting off?
Turning off this setting won't affect your results or your account.
Here's how to do it when you're ready:
- Go back to Settings and select Developer Options.
- Find the Input section and toggle off Show taps.
What if something goes wrong?
Try these steps before reaching out to support:
- Make sure you tapped Build Number the full 10 times. Some devices may need a few extra taps.
- If you can't find Developer Options in your Settings menu, try searching for it in the Settings search bar.
- If your device path looks different from the steps above, go to Settings and search for "Show taps" or "Show touches" directly. Some manufacturers label it differently or place it in a different location.
