You may be invited to take mobile tests that open in the UserZoom Surveys app. This article explains how the experience works and what you can do if something goes wrong.
In this article:
What to expect
Some mobile tests will open in the UserZoom Surveys app instead of directly in the UserTesting app.
You’ll still:
- Accept the test in the UserTesting app
- Get paid through PayPal, just like other tests
What you’ll need before you start
Your device needs access to the UserZoom Surveys app.
- If UserZoom Surveys is already installed, it opens automatically when it’s time to start the test.
- If it’s not installed, we'll ask you to install it before your test starts.
How the test flow works
- Open the test in the UserTesting mobile app.
- Complete the screener questions if required. For some tests, you might qualify automatically and get to skip this step!
- Continue in the UserZoom Surveys app.
- If you don't have the UserZoom Surveys app installed yet, tap Install app to go to the app store. Install the app, then close the app store using the X or close button.
- After returning to the UserTesting app, select Start test to begin.
Important things to know before you begin
Before you begin
Keep these in mind so you don’t get stuck:
- If you’re taken to the app store, install UserZoom Surveys, then close the app store using the X or close button.
- Once the app store closes, you’ll be redirected back to the test, where you can select Start test.
Remember: You’ll only be asked once to allow the UserTesting app to open UserZoom Surveys. If you select Cancel, you won’t be able to continue with your test.
Troubleshooting common issues
I passed the screener, but the test didn’t load
Close and reopen the UserTesting app - This is usually the quickest fix.
- Close the UserTesting app.
- Reopen it.
- Return to the Home tab, and try opening the test again.
Because you qualified for the test, it should still be available for a short time.
I’m stuck on the app store
- Install the UserZoom Surveys app.
- When the installation finishes, close the app store using the X or close button.
- You should be redirected back to the test, where you can select Start test.
Starting the test from the app store won’t work. Always close the app store and return to the UserTesting app to begin the test.
If the UserZoom Surveys app opens and asks for an invitation link or QR code, don’t worry. Use your phone’s app switcher to return to the UserTesting app. From there, you can continue the test by selecting Start test.
I already installed UserZoom Surveys, but the test didn’t start
- Close the UserTesting app.
- Reopen it.
- Open the test again from the Home tab.
I tapped Cancel and got an error
You may get an error message like “Unable to open test in the UserZoom app.”
This happens because the app can only request permission to open the UserZoom Surveys app once. If you select Cancel, the test can’t continue during that attempt.
Try again if the test is still available
- Close the UserTesting app.
- Reopen it and check whether the test is still listed.
- If it is, uninstall and reinstall the UserZoom Surveys app before trying again.
The app freezes, crashes, or won’t load
- Restart your phone.
- Confirm you’re using the latest version of the UserTesting app.
- Turn off VPNs or security apps if you use them.
If issues continue, use these step-by-step guides:
