If you're using Google Chrome to complete your tests, you may need to update your security settings to allow the UserTesting Browser Recorder to record your screen and screen and access your microphone.
If you choose to participate in tests with Face Recording, you'll also need to allow camera access.
Allow the Microphone and Screen Recording permissions
1. Click Allow to give the UserTesting Browser Recorder access to your microphone.
2. Once you allow access to your microphone, you’ll need to share your screen. Under the tab, your Your Entire Screen, select your screen and click Share.
3. To make sure the recorder can capture your screen, confirm you can see the blue circles in the preview. Then click Yes.
4. You should see a “Success!” message at this point. Once you click Done, you can continue taking tests using the UserTesting Browser Recorder.
If you didn't see blue circles in Step 3 and clicked No, you’ll need to allow permissions for the recorder in your System Preferences.
Instructions for macOS Catalina, Big Sur, and Monterey
1. Click the Apple logo, and select System Preferences.
2. Go to Security & Privacy.
3. Select the Privacy tab.
4. Select Microphone, and check the box next to Google Chrome.
5. Complete the same steps for Screen Recording.
6. Quit Chrome to apply the settings. When you reopen your browser and go to your UserTesting dashboard, you’ll return to Step 3 (where you should now see blue circles).
7. Continue through the last steps to complete this process and return to testing.
Instructions for macOS Ventura
1. Click the Apple logo, and select System Settings.
2. Select Privacy & Security.
3. Select Microphone, and toggle on access for Google Chrome.
4. Complete the same steps for Screen Recording.
5. Quit Chrome to apply the settings. When you reopen your browser and go to your UserTesting dashboard, you’ll return to Step 3 (where you should now see blue circles).
Allow the Camera permission
If you choose to participate in tests that require Face Recording, you'll need to allow the Camera permission. All tests requiring Face Recording will have a badge and screener asking if you're comfortable sharing your camera.
Once you accept a Face Recording test, you'll need to share your camera. To do this, click Allow.
If you accidentally click Block, you'll need to allow the Camera permission in your System Preferences.
